Some final thoughts as we head into a much-anticipated and badly needed weekend.

Item 1. I love being right

Some of you Qcity fans took me to task for suggesting that President Obama should have sidestepped the Skip Gates question during his primetime news conference.

“I know you got the memo on how the crowd went shell on Tavis when HE went there,” said one Obama fan.

“I don't particularly think you should be too pro-white or pro-police officer in your blog,” said another, who generally hates me.

Well, today the president all but apologized.

Trying to tamp down the ensuing uproar, Obama called his words unfortunate.

He said he telephoned the white policeman who arrested Gates and the conversation confirmed his belief that the officer was a good man and an outstanding cop.

"This has been ratcheting up, and I obviously helped to contribute ratcheting it up," Obama said. "I want to make clear that in my choice of words, I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge police department and Sgt. Crowley specifically. And I could've calibrated those words differently."

Look, folks, all I’m saying is this: When you’re president of the United States, you can’t always say what you really think or feel – not if you expect to be a successful (two-term) president.

If you’ve been reading Qcitymetro.com since our December 2008 launch, you’ve probably noticed some new faces behind some of our best blogs and commentary. You also may have noticed that nearly all are women.

With football season fast approaching, I’m looking to add some muscle to our local coverage.
