December 8 is a special date in the life of Qcitymetro.com. It was one year ago today that we launched.
That’s right; today’s our birthday.
Like most newborns, we spent much of our first year of life simply learning to survive.
Now it’s time for growth.
Our purpose for launching this site was always clear: We wanted to build a virtual front porch for the Charlotte area’s black community. In other words, we hoped Qcitymetro would become a place where neighbors meet, a place where family and friends chat about issues that matter to us -- on our own terms.
But we also see the site as a neighborhood bulletin board, a place where proud parents can post news of graduations, weddings and job promotions, a place where sororities, fraternities and churches can share upcoming events and past accomplishments.
In short, we wanted to create an online community.
I believe we laid a good foundation. But it's just a start.
So, as we blow out the candles on Year One, here’s our wish list for the next 365 days:
1. If you enjoy the content we produce, help us spread the word. Tell friends, family, coworkers and church members about Qcitymetro.com.
2. We want this site to be interactive, a two-way conversation. That means we want more readers commenting on the stories and blogs we post. So, join the discussion.
3. Become one of our growing number of Facebook fans and suggest us to your Facebook friends. Our Facebook page is at www.facebook.com/qcitymetro. We’re also on Twitter.
4. Good news is better when shared. Send us your church, career, sorority, fraternity and personal announcements. Our email address is editor@qcitymetro.com, or simply use the “Submit” button up top among the large navigation tabs.
As for us, we pledge to be better in the new year than we were in the first 12 months of our online life.
So, what are you waiting for? Join the Community!
