Like fashion, eyebrow trends change each season.
Unkempt or over tweezed eyebrows are never in style, and for many women, finding the right brow shape and how to properly maintain it can be a challenge.
I met with brow expert Glenda Stephen, owner of Precision Brows, for tips. As we move towards the fall season (I know it’s still hot outside) the new trend is a natural, fuller brow.

Stephens, who is a licensed esthetician, has been waxing eyebrows for the past 12 years. She says she was trained by Oprah Winfrey’s eyebrow specialist, the famous Anastasia Soare in Beverly Hills.
In the Q&A below she offers some advice. Also, click here to see my video.
Q. Why should a woman maintain her eyebrows?
It’s
a part of grooming. You do your hair, nails and makeup. The eyebrows
frame the face, so why wouldn’t you want to have them perfectly groomed
and neat?
Q. What do you suggest for someone who has damaged brows from over plucking?
I see a lot of damaged brows. I recommend women grow their eyebrows
out. There are great products on the market now that can help with that.
Products like Anastasia’s New Brow and Rogaine for Women are great. And
yes, you can put Rogaine on your eyebrows to help them grow back in. I
highly suggest it.
If you’re not blessed with thick brows, try to put something on them to help them grow. Keep what you have, just don’t over tweeze, and go to a professional to have them shaped.
Q. How often should you maintain your brows?
Everyone’s
hair grows differently. If your hair grows quickly, they may have to be
waxed every two weeks, but typically you should maintain them every
four weeks.
Q. What products do you suggest women use to maintain their brows?
I
love eyebrow powder. It looks softer and more natural. With a powder
you can target areas and put the color where you need to fill in. A
pencil looks more heavy and waxy.
Other Tips:
1. Don’t over tweeze.
2. Don’t use a razor to shape your eyebrows. Razors get only the hair on the surface, and it grows back quickly and course. When you wax you pull out the bulb, getting everything nice and clean.
3. Never use a black pencil to fill in your brows. Dark brown is okay but never black. Rule of thumb – if your hair is dark, your eyebrow should be two shades lighter. If your hair is light it should be two shades darker. But never black.
